What is the 3-2-1-1 backup rule?
The previous standard for data backup was the 3-2-1 rule. With all of the ransomware threats today, the new standard includes an immutable copy of your data backup. Immutable means that it cannot be deleted. It is a read-only copy. The 3 means having three copies of the backup. The 2 means that these backups need to be stored on two different types of media. The first 1 means at least one backup must be stored offsite. The final 1 means one copy needs to be immutable. This is a “best practices” rule for data backups. Make sure your backup strategy meets these minimum standards for data protection.
